September 10 - 14
Important dates to remember this week:
Monday:
KM Club Starts
If you are joining us for Kilometer Club, please meet your child out on the track at lunch time. We ask that dogs are left at home. Thank you for your help and understanding with this.
Library Day
Library will be on days 1&4. Please return library books each day 1 and 4 so new ones can be checked out. All lost or damaged books will need to be paid for before taking out new books.
Upcoming events:
Talk Like A Pirate Day is on September 18th.
School photos will be on September 19th and 20th (I will let you know which day our pictures are once they let us know!)
No School for students (NO FAIR DAY) on September 21st
Terry Fox Run is on September 27th.
Orange Shirt Day is on September 28th.
Agenda Use
Please make sure the agenda comes back to school each day. This is a
perfect way to keep communication between school and home.
Indoor/Outdoor shoes
Students are required to have an indoor pair of shoes and an outdoor pair of
shoes. Please send in another pair if you haven’t already. Thank you.
Microwave use
Please limit the amount of microwavable items. There is a limited time for me
to heat up all the microwavable lunches each day. Thanks for your understanding!
Safe and Caring School
Thank you for working with us around the new safe & secure processes in the building. We appreciate that change is hard, but have had a great start up, and are already seeing the benefits of some of the changes. We find hallways quieter, students displaying independence, and everyone is getting a quicker start on the day of learning. Further, kids are engaged in their classroom work right up until the end of the day. As we move forward there will likely be a few refinements to improve processes, such as lining up in the mornings for our Pre K-Grade 6 students which helps eliminate some of the boot room chaos we have seen in the past. Please stay tuned as we move forward. Thank you again for trusting us with those you hold most near and dear – we continue to do our very best to keep them safe, happy and learning.
Have a great week!

September 4, 2018
Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! My name is Mr. Seely and I am excited to teach and get to know you and your child! My hope is that we can work together to make this year the most successful for your child. If you have any questions or concerns a long the way, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting you in the next few weeks and am really looking forward to this school year!
1.) Agendas - I expect each child to take their Agendas home every night and bring them back to school each day. I would ask that you please initial them each night. This is a perfect opportunity for you and I to communicate. Your child is responsible for keeping track of upcoming events in his or her agenda.
2.) Spelling - The spelling program I use is very individualized and will follow the 8-day cycle. We work with the words all week long as well as spelling strategies. Students will be tested on their individual words at the end of each cycle.
3.) Home Reading - I will be sending home a home reading booklet. I encourage your child to read at least 10 minutes each evening. After every 10 entries your child should bring their booklet to school, I will initial the entries and they will be able to pick a prize from the prize box.
4.) Homework - Most assignments will be completed in class, with the exception of Home Reading.
5.) Water bottles – Please send a reusable water bottle with your child. Your child will bring their water bottle home once a week for proper cleaning.
7.) Growly - Grade One students are not able to go to the Growly at lunchtime.
8.) Morning Routine – Students are to remain outside until the 8:25 bell. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for the chilly mornings and the warmer afternoons.
9.) After School Routine - Please have a plan or a meeting place set up with your child for after school. It is very distracting at the end of the day to have parents visiting outside the classroom door. Allow your child to work on their independence, pack their own bag and meet you in the common area or outside. Thanks for your help making your child independent and responsible!
It's always tricky getting back into a routine with new classmates and a new teacher! I will do my best to keep you informed as to what is happening throughout the year. I will have your child update their agenda weekly and I will post any information on here as well.
Cheers,
Chance Seely
